ISL 2024-25: Mohun Bagan SG Edge Past Jamshedpur FC to Reach Final with 3-2 Aggregate Win

Kolkata, April 7, 2025 — Mohun Bagan Super Giant delivered a spirited and commanding performance to defeat Jamshedpur FC 2-0 in the second leg of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 semifinal at a packed Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan. The result overturned their 2-1 deficit from the first leg, sealing a 3-2 win on aggregate and securing their place in the final for the third consecutive season.

With over 58,000 passionate fans filling the Salt Lake Stadium, the Mariners set the tone from the outset. Despite trailing from the first leg held at the JRD Tata Sports Complex, they came out all guns blazing, determined to rewrite the script.

First Half: Relentless Pressure, No Reward

Mohun Bagan pushed forward from the first whistle. Ashique Kuruniyan was electric on the left wing, delivering dangerous crosses and linking up well with Anirudh Thapa, whose early attempt was blocked. Jamshedpur, protecting their lead, sat deep and relied on counter-attacks, but failed to trouble Vishal Kaith in the Mohun Bagan goal.

Jason Cummings, Subhasish Bose, and Asish Rai all had chances in the opening half. Cummings, in particular, came close twice in quick succession, his shots narrowly missing the target. Alberto Rodriguez nearly scored in the 19th minute, only to be denied by a goal-line clearance from Sourav Das.

By the 35-minute mark, the Mariners had registered over 100 touches in the opposition half, showcasing their dominance. Still, Jamshedpur’s resolute defence held firm, and the half ended goalless.

Second Half: Penalty Drama and a Last-Gasp Finish

The second half began with Javi Hernandez nearly silencing the home crowd with a long-range effort that missed by inches. But the Mariners soon turned up the heat again.

In the 50th minute, a Cummings corner struck Pranoy Halder’s hand inside the box. The referee pointed to the spot, and Cummings stepped up to convert, sending Albino Gomes the wrong way and equalizing the tie at 2-2 on aggregate.

Jose Molina’s men pushed on for the winner as the stadium erupted in cheers and fireworks. Jamie Maclaren, Ashique, and Liston all created chances, but the finishing touch eluded them. Manvir Singh and Dimitri Petratos were introduced to inject fresh energy as Jamshedpur made tactical substitutions of their own.

As the clock ticked into added time, the drama reached its peak. In the 93rd minute, Liston Colaco’s cross from the left was intercepted by Pranoy, who lost possession under pressure. Thapa calmly laid it off for Apuia, who took a touch and rifled the ball into the bottom-right corner—sending the crowd into a frenzy.

Final Whistle: History Beckons

With the 2-0 win on the night, Mohun Bagan sealed a 3-2 aggregate triumph, earning a place in the ISL final yet again. The players celebrated wildly as the Green and Maroon faithful lit up the night sky with applause and fireworks.

Mohun Bagan SG are now one step away from ISL glory.
